Overview

Founded by the Victoria legislature in 1853, the University of Melbourne is one of Australia's oldest universities.

Initially offering a liberal arts course, it expanded its offerings over the years, including the addition of a law school in 1857, engineering instruction in 1860, a medical school in 1862, and a music conservatory (now the faculty of music) in 1895.

The university continued to grow, introducing schools of dentistry, agriculture, veterinary science, education, architecture, and commerce between 1904 and 1924. In 1994, a school of graduate studies was established. The university's faculties encompass arts and business, showcasing its diverse academic offerings.

In the 2022 QS Graduate Employability Rankings, the University of Melbourne secured the 8th position globally for graduate employability.

Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU):

In 2023, the university was ranked 35th, which represents a decrease of three places compared to 2022 when it was ranked 32nd. In 2021, it held the 33rd position.

QS World University Rankings:

In 2024, the university significantly improved, securing the 14th position, a remarkable climb of 19 places from its 2023 ranking of 33rd. In 2022, it held the 37th position.

Times Higher Education World University Rankings: 

The university's rankings in the Times Higher Education list showed some fluctuations. In 2024, it dropped to the 37th position, a decrease of three places from the previous year (2023) when it was ranked 34th. In 2022, it held the 33rd position.

As of December 2022, the University boasts a thriving alumni community, exceeding 470,000 living alumni. Demonstrating robust career outcomes, 97% of undergraduates and an impressive 98% of graduates secured employment within 3 to 5 years post-study, according to the 2017 Career Outcomes survey. The commitment to community impact is evident, with 2 out of 5 graduates participating in volunteer work, as per the same survey. The university exhibits scholarly productivity, generating over 14,000 scholarly outputs annually as of July 2023.

The university actively facilitates practical experiences, with a network of 1600+ student internship partners recorded as of October 2020. Additionally, the 2017 Career Outcomes survey revealed that a substantial 87% of graduates developed analytical problem-solving skills during their academic journey.

This fully funded scholarship for international students covers the following:

• Tuition fee reduction of $10,000 in the first year
• 50% tuition fee reduction for three years, or

2.Bachelor of Arts International Scholarship:

This fully funded scholarship for international students covers the following:

• 100% of tuition fees

Eligibility Criteria

Undergraduate:

• Successfully finish the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) or an equivalent qualification.
• Fulfill any additional academic prerequisites essential for applying to your desired undergraduate program. These may involve prerequisite subjects, prerequisite tests, portfolio submissions, interviews, or auditions.
• Satisfy the English language proficiency requirement.

Postgraduate:

• Completion of a four-year Australian Bachelor's course or its overseas equivalent is typically required.
• An overall average of greater than 75% in the final year of the course is generally expected.
•  Completion of a research project/component, accounting for at least 25% of the year's work at the 4th-year undergraduate or master's level, is typically a prerequisite.
