Brief University History:

In 2011, Laureate Education Asia's proposal for a private university was approved by the Government of South Australia, leading to the establishment of Torrens University.

Premier Mike Rann's negotiations with Laureate Chairman Douglas Becker and Chancellor Michael Mann, along with public endorsement from former US President Bill Clinton, facilitated the university's creation.

Fred McDougall, former deputy vice-chancellor of the University of Adelaide, served as the founding President and Vice-chancellor.

Torrens University initially planned to open in 2013 but began teaching in 2014.

In 2019, It was reaccredited for 5 years.
