Our Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood & Care: 0-8 years)/Bachelor of Arts degree provides you with a qualification to work with young children in both childcare and school settings. This degree includes an extensive workplace component in both childcare centres and schools, amounting to 32 weeks over five years.

Have you always had a special interest in the care and education of young children? Can you imagine the joy that comes with helping a child’s learning and development? If so, the Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood & Care: 0-8 Years)/Bachelor of Arts is the ideal degree for you.

This highly-structured and intensive program qualifies you to work with children from birth to eight years, in both childcare and school settings. Designed to be completed over five years of full-time study, the Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood & Care: 0-8 Years)/Bachelor of Arts is a perfect combination of theory and practice. The Education component of the program covers traditional subjects such as English, Mathematics and the Humanities plus special early childhood education courses such as Play and Pedagogy. In addition, you will be required to undertake 32 weeks of practical experience in a range of childcare and classroom settings. A unique feature is that this practicum experience directly counts towards your degree.

In the Bachelor of Arts component of this double degree you will study a Major in an area such as Archaeology, English Literature, Social Justice, Politics and International Relations, History or Theatre Studies which will give you in-depth, specialist knowledge and skills that will allow you to work in an educational setting and to contribute to the cultural and intellectual life of society.

The Arts component will also develop your ability to analyse, interpret, deliberate, draw conclusions, communicate, work as a team member and problem-solve. You will be able to consider multiple perspectives and handle ambiguity and uncertainty. These are the skills needed in the creative industries of the 21st century workplace.
