1. To qualify for the award a candidate must pass units to the value of 192 credit points which includes 80 days of embedded professional experience in the designated teaching areas.

2. Candidates are required to pass 48 credit points of discipline units prior to commencing any curriculum unit and/or their first professional experience placement.

3. The Science Discipline component of the integrated degree shall total 96 credit points and comprises:

(i) 60 credit points from Group 1 in a First Teaching Area from: Agriculture, Biology, Chemistry, Earth and Environmental Science, Information Processes and Technology, Mathematics, Mathematics and Physics, Physics, Software Design and Development; and

(ii) 36 credit points from Group 2 in another First Teaching Area from: Agriculture, Information Processes and Technology, Mathematics, Software Design and Development; or

(iii) 24 credit points from Group 3 in an Additional Teaching Area from: Agriculture, Information Processes and Technology, Mathematics or Software Design and Development and an additional 12 credit points from any Teaching Area listed in Group 1, 2 or 3 where they meet the pre and co-requisites for the units.

4. The Education component of the combined degree shall total 96 credit points including 80 days of embedded professional experience in the designated teaching areas and comprises:

• 60 credit points of Compulsory Education units including 80 days of embedded professional experience in the designated teaching areas;
• 36* credit points of Curriculum units depending upon the number and combination of designated teaching areas
• between 0 and 18 credit points of Listed Elective Education units depending upon the number and combination of designated teaching areas.

*Exceptions

• 18 credit points for candidates selecting both Information Processes and Technology and Software Design and Development as their areas.
• 30 credit points for candidates selecting Information Processes and Technology or Software Design and Development as their Group 1 First Teaching Area, as they complete 18 credit points of Curriculum units associated with these teaching areas, and 12 credit points in their Group 2 or Group 3 Teaching Area, for a total of 30 credit points.

5. Candidates must pass the National Literacy and Numeracy Test for Initial Teacher Education Students to qualify for the award. The test must be passed before the final professional experience placement.

6. Candidates must pass the Graduate Teacher Performance Assessment (GTPA) during the final professional experience placement.

The Bachelor of Education (Secondary STEM) will give you an accredited qualification as a secondary school teacher qualified to teach in STEM teaching areas including Mathematics, Sciences (Physics, Biology, Chemistry, Earth and Environmental Science), Agriculture, and Computing.

You will graduate with the knowledge, skills and experience necessary to step into a rewarding secondary teaching career, ready to adapt to the rapidly changing education field.

For direct admission into undergraduate courses offered by UNE you must have completed an educational qualification considered to be at least equivalent to completion of Year 12 in Australia.

An IELTS (Academic) overall score of at least 6.0 with no sub-band less than 5.5; or

Equivalent TOEFL score of at least 213 in the computer-based test; or

At least 79 in the internet-based test with no less than 22 in the written component; or

A PTE Academic minimum overall score of 57 with no skill less than 50
