Strengthen your knowledge of statistical science and develop your consulting and project writing skills. The UNSW Master of Statistics covers a wide range of statistical theory and practice and provides advanced training in the principles of mathematics and statistical analysis. 

This program is also suitable for students who are currently or aspiring to become practicing statisticians, with the opportunity to learn in-depth applications of statistics in areas such as finance, engineering or medical and biological science. The program also provides the necessary preparation for further research in statistics.

Course Structure

This degree covers a range of statistical theory and practice and provides advanced training in the principles of mathematics and statistical analysis. In addition, the program provides the necessary preparation for further research in statistics. 

Full program structure

The Master of Statistics can be completed in 1.7 years of full-time study. The program is made up of 10 courses, including two core courses and eight electives. You’ll also complete a compulsory supervised research project.

Career Outcomes

Statisticians are trained to think logically and to approach problems in analytical and creative ways. Studying statistics prepares you for a wide variety of careers because it provides you with the problem-solving, computing and communication skills that employers want.

IELTS: 6.5 overall (min. 6.0 in each subtest); TOEFL IBT (Internet Based): 90 overall (min. 23 in writing, 22 in reading, listening and speaking); Pearson (PTE - Academic): 64 overall (min. 54 in each subtest); C1 Advanced Cambridge: 176 overall (min. 169 in each subtest); C2 Proficiency Cambridge: 180 overall (min. 180 in each subtest); UNSW Global University English Entry Course (UEEC): Successful completion with a minimum overall grade of C+ and a minimum grade of C in the writing component.
