Course Structure

Program structure:

The Master of Commerce is a 1.7 year program consisting of 12 courses.  The program includes:

  • Core units on professional skills, ethics, data literacy and data communication
  • Courses in one or two chosen specialisations
  • Business or free electives (if only one specialisation is chosen)  
  • A Coding for Business course
  • A capstone or practicum.

 

This Master’s degree can be studied full-time or part-time. Full-time study is considered two to three courses per term, however it’s normal for postgraduate students to plan their studies around other life commitments.

Each UNSW university year has three terms and an optional summer study period. Depending on how you plan your study load, you can fit two or three courses into a term and one course in a summer term.

Below is an example of what you might study if you completed three courses per term. 

First year 

Term 1

  • 1 Core course in Professional Skills and Ethics
  • 1 Core course in Data Analysis or Data Visualisation and Communication
  • 1 course to support your specialisation

Term 2

  • 2 courses in your chosen specialisation/s or electives

Term 3

  • 3 courses in your chosen specialisation/s or electives

Summer Study Period

  • Take a break

Second year 

Term 1

  • 1 course in your chosen specialisation/s or electives

  • 1 Business School elective course or Coding for Business
  •  Capstone course in your specialisation/s

Academic

This degree’s admission requirements are based on you having a recognised undergraduate degree (or equivalent qualification) with a credit average, as determined by the UNSW Business School.

Entry Requirement

IELTS: 7.0 overall (min. 6.0 in each subtest)

TOEFL IBT (Internet Based): 94 overall (min. 25 in writing, 23 in reading, listening and speaking)

Pearson (PTE - Academic): 65 overall (min. 54 in each subtest)

C1 Advanced Cambridge: 185 overall (min. 169 in each subtest)

C2 Proficiency Cambridge: 185 overall (min. 180 in each subtest)

UNSW Global University English Entry Course (UEEC): Successful completion with a minimum overall grade of B and a minimum grade of C in the writing component.
