Overview
Gain the skills to lead learning programs outside the traditional classroom with the Bachelor of Education Studies (EBST) from Victoria University. EBST is also an alternative path into teaching.
Our Bachelor of Education Studies will give you the teaching skills and knowledge to work in a number of community and private settings, including:
- mentoring and tutoring programs
- community programs
- public and welfare services
- after-school care
- teacher aide positions.
You can steer your education-focused career into an area of personal passion, with a relevant major or minor from our broad options. Possibilities include:
- PE/physical education (secondary)
- arts (music, visual arts and media)
- community (health, welfare, disability or psychology)
- English (literary studies and teaching English as an additional language)
- humanities (history, cultural or Indigenous studies)
- ICT (digital media)
- maths
- outdoor education
- science specialisations.
Please note: this course does not provide you with the prerequisites for teacher registration.
Domestic students can choose to study at the Werribee Campus for your first year only. After that, you will complete your course at the Footscray Park Campus.

Course Structure
To attain the Bachelor of Education Studies, students will be required to complete 288 credit points, consisting of:
- 96 credit points of First Year Core units
- 48 credit points of Core studies
- 48 credit points of Minor studies
- 96 credit points of Major studies
Career Outcomes
Bachelor of Education Studies prepares you for a wide range of important work with an education focus where teacher registration is not required, including:
- adult education
- teacher aide
- care facility training and support
- community programs
- disability work
- specialised learning programs, such as arts, science or maths
- recreation and sporting activities.
If you continue on to our Master of Teaching (Secondary Education) or Master of Teaching (Primary Education) you'll be able to apply for school teaching positions.
Academic
Completion of an Australian Senior Secondary Certificate (VCE or equivalent) including Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 30 in English (EAL) or 25 in any other English (or equivalent).
Entry Requirement
IELTS (or equivalent): Overall score or 6.0 (with no band less than 6.0 in Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking).
OR:
Completion of a Foundation course or equivalent
TOEFL: overall score of 67, section scores no less than:
Listening: 12
Speaking: 18
Reading: 15
Writing: 21
PTE: overall score of 50-57, no section score less than 50
CAE: overall score of 169, no individual band less than 169
VU English – English for Academic Purposes (EAP) (Level 5): achieved.
