The Diploma in Mathematical Sciences enables you to gain a mathematics qualification while completing an undergraduate degree. You will use and develop your mathematical skills to compliment your studies with high-level numerical and modelling skills that can be applied across almost every areas of employment and are always in demand.
Please note: The Diploma in Mathematical Sciences is not available to students enrolled in the Bachelor of Science who are taking the Data Science, Mathematics and Statistics or Mathematical Physics majors.

Course Structure
With a Diploma in Mathematical Sciences you can specialise in:
- Applied Mathematics
- Operations Research/Discrete Mathematics
- Pure Mathematics
- Statistics/Stochastic Processes
You will learn to work with mathematics and statistics while collaborating with people in other disciplines such as science, industry, technology and commerce to think critically and argue logically.
Course structure
Students undertake the Diploma in Mathematical Sciences together with an undergraduate degree, to make a total program of between 350 and 400 points.
Up to 50 points of appropriate Mathematics and Statistics subjects in the undergraduate degree program may also be attributed to the Diploma.
Students are required to select subjects in the undergraduate degree and the Diploma, so that all requirements of the undergraduate degree are met and, in addition through the Diploma, the student meets the specific requirements for the award of any one specialisation of the major in Mathematics and Statistics, as defined for the Bachelor of Science.

You will be able to demonstrate an understanding of the fundamental principles of at least one area in mathematics or statistics and its applications to engage in mathematical discourse with the wider community.

To be eligible to enrol in the Diploma in Mathematical Sciences you must already be enrolled in one of the following undergraduate degrees at the University of Melbourne: Bachelor of Arts; Ba
Entry Requirement
TOEFL Internet-based test: total score of at least 79 and scores of 21 for writing, 18 for speaking, 13 for reading and 13 for listening; IELTS: total score of at least 6.5 in the Academic International English Language Testing System (IELTS), with no bands less than 6.0; Pearson Test of English Academic : overall score of at least 58 and no PTE communicative skills score below 50; Cambridge English, Advanced/Certificate in Advanced English (CAE): Cambridge English Score of at least 176 with no skill below 169; C2 Proficiency (previously called Cambridge English: Proficiency (CPE) examination): Cambridge English Score of at least 180 with no skill below 180.
