Overview
If you've found fulfillment in pursuing your Bachelor of Arts degree, why not consider embarking on an Honours year? Typically spanning an additional year following the successful completion of a three-year undergraduate program, the Honours year offers a deeper exploration of your academic interests. Building upon the broad spectrum of subjects covered in your Bachelor of Arts curriculum, an Honours project allows you to delve into a chosen area with greater depth and focus. The range of research topics is flexible and diverse, empowering you to pursue inquiries that truly captivate your curiosity.
From the perspective of potential employers, the ability to demonstrate proficiency in achieving complex objectives, meeting deadlines, conducting independent investigations, efficiently utilizing resources, and articulating ideas coherently is highly valued.
At UOW, the Honours year serves two primary purposes: it serves as a comprehensive project at the culmination of undergraduate studies and as a transitional phase between undergraduate education and advanced research. Engaging in Honours studies will:
- Foster research skills, information navigation proficiency, and effective utilization of information systems such as archives, libraries, databases, and electronic research networks.
- Offer opportunities to articulate complex concepts both verbally and in writing.
- Provide firsthand experience collaborating closely with a supervisor on a project and meeting project deadlines.
- Enable you to devise, research, and present an individual study topic in the form of an extended thesis ranging from approximately 15,000 to 18,000 words.
